The sun will rise on December 3rd, 2021. We are well into the run up to Christmas. All across the world homes and businesses will be decorated for this holiday season. There is a Christmas spirit. I do enjoy the holidays. I’m always glad to see them come and glad to see them go. I will not take them for granted. I don’t know how many more I will get to celebrate. Today is International Day of Persons with Disabilities, Let’s Hug Day, Make a Gift Day, National Green Bean Casserole Day and my selection, National Apple Pie Day. Onto what happened on this date: This is the day in 1586 that Sir Thomas Herriot introduced potatoes to England from Colombia. On this day in 1835 the first fire insurance policy was issued. In 1868, the 1st blacks were placed on a jury for the trial of Jefferson Davis. In 1910 the first neon lights were displayed at the Paris auto show. In 1956 Wilt Chamberlain played his first college game for Kansas and scores 52 points and grabs 31 rebounds. On this day in 1969 John Lennon was offered role of Jesus Christ in Jesus Christ Superstar. On this day in 2014 Nathaniel Branden who was a Canadian psychotherapist died. Here are a couple of his insights: “Of all the judgements we pass in life, none is more important than the judgement we pass on ourselves” and “The ultimate test of our integrity is not how we deal with those whom we agree but how we deal with those who we do not agree.” This is also the death date (1894) of Robert Louis Stevenson. I’ll end this post with some of his advice: “A person who has stopped being thankful has fallen asleep in life” and “Make up your mind to be happy. Learn to find pleasure in simple things.” Good advice. Abide.
