The good news on June 18 2020 is that there is no hurricane brewing in the Atlantic. The bad news is that Florida may become the next epicenter of the virus according to some scientist who study this kind of thing. All I/we can do is to protect ourselves and hope for the best. I’ll continue to do what I’m doing. I am grateful to have an excellent supply of vodka and a tree that gives me limes. Today is Go Fishing Day, International Panic Day (will not celebrate this one), International Picnic Day, International Sushi Day and National Splurge Day. My favorite on this list is sushi. Yum. No lets catch a ride on the way back machine: On this day in 1053 at the Battle of Civitate, 3,000 thousand horsemen of Norman Count Humphrey rout the troops of Pope Leo IX. This is a battle fought in Italy. 3,000 horsemen fighting with swords and spears? Wow. This is the day in 1873 that Susan B. Anthony is fined $100 for attempting to vote in the 1872 presidential election. On this day in 1923 Checker Taxis its first taxi on the streets. And, on this day in 1965 the United States begins using B-52 bombers in South Vietnam. This is the birthday (1862) of Carolyn Wells, American novelist and poet. Carolyn said, “Youth is a silly, vapid state, Old age with fears and ills is rife; This simple boon I beg of Fate – A thousand years of Middle Life.” This is the day that I.F. Stone, a progressive investigative journalist, writer, and author who died in 1989 at the age of 81. He said, “The only kinds of fights worth fighting are those you’re going to lose, because somebody has to fight them and lose and lose and lose until someday, somebody who believes as you do wins.” Now, go out, or stay in but do the best you can. June 18 is only going to be here once. Abide
