It’s now April 4, 2020. Truly an interesting time to be alive. Since we have access to the internet, we have a portal into the past, present and the future. My focus will always be the present but the past and the our expectation of the future is also interesting. As I write this post, Fox is pushing to reopen the economy and the Governor of Georgia has reopened his beaches to the public. I wonder how this is going to work out? Anyway, April 4th is Tell a Lie Day, International Carrot Day, International Pillow Fight Day, National Cordon Bleu Day, Vitamin C Day and World Rat Day. Did you know that Rats giggle? Yep. They are much smarter and more social than we realize. I’ll pick the carrot as long as we make it into a cake. Now to history. On this day in 1687 King James II orders his declaration of indulgence read in English churches. I did a bit of research. At this time it was a crime to not believe the teachings of the Church of England. The Declaration of Indulgence was an attempt to bring about religious freedom. In 1896 the announcement of gold discovery in Yukon is made starting the Klondike Gold Rush which brought 100,000 prospectors to Alaska. Finally, this is the day in 1968 that Martin Luther King Jr. is assassinated in Memphis, Tennessee. He has so many powerful quotes. Here’s a couple: “We must learn to live together as brothers or perish together as fools.” “Faith is taking the first step even when you don’t see the whole staircase” April 4th is also Muddy Water’s birthday. For those of you who don’t know him, he’s a Delta Blues man. This quote lets you see Mississippi from his point of view. He said, “Saturday night is your big night. Everybody used to fry up fish and have one hell of a time. Find me playing till sunrise for 50 cents and a sandwich. They really liked the low-down blues.” I think I’ll listen to some Muddy Waters today. Have a good one and stay safe. Abide
