The earth rotated into the sun’s light this morning in the space/time of July 7 2020. I hope that today will not bring the lightning that the 6th did. Florida is the lightning capital of America. And no, not the world. Rwanda has 2 1/2 times the lightning strikes we have in Florida. In America, we are number 1. We have a couple of excellent options for celebration today: Chocolate Day, Father-Daughter Take a Walk Together Day (I wish), Global Forgiveness Day, National Dive Bar Day, National Macaroni Day, National Strawberry Sundae Day and Tell The Truth Day. Any of these are good choices for me but I’d most like to take a walk with Sarah, who is in Michigan. Chocolate will have to do. This is the day in 1456 that Joan of Arc is acquitted of heresy in a retrial 25 years after being burned at the stake. That’s a big ops. On this day in 1863 the orders barring Jews from serving under US General Ulysses S. Grant are revoked. This is the day in 1912 American athlete Jim Thorpe wins 4 of 5 events to win the Pentathlon gold medal at the Stockholm Olympics. He was a member of the Sac and Fox Nation in Oklahoma and the first Native American to win gold in the Olympics. This is the day in 1928 that sliced bread sold for the 1st time (Chillicothe Baking Company, Missouri). Today is the birthday (1949) of Shelley Duvall who played Olive in the movie “Popeye”. Shelley said, “We live from day to day and get as much joy out of experiencing as we can.” Sounds good to me. This is one of those days when I can’t find anyone who died that had a good quote. So, let me end this post with a quote about joy by Alan Cohen who said, “Joy is not the result of getting what you want; it is the way to get what you want.” In other words, joy is a verb, not a noun.
