August 8th 2020 is here. Just another day? If you decide it is, it is. I will try and experience it as another unique day of my life. That’s not easy because of the pandemic but It’s still possible. It’s all about your attitude. Dale Carnegie, who I consider the to be best salesman who ever lived said, “Happiness doesn’t depend on any external conditions, it is governed by our mental attitude.” Today, I’ve decided to be happy. Why? Because it’s Celebrate Your Lakes Day, International Cat Day, National Bowling Day, National CBD Day, National Garage Sale Day, National Zucchini Day and National Frozen Custard Day which is my pick. Zucchini comes in as a close second. This date in 1786 that the US Congress unanimously chooses the dollar as the monetary unit for the United States of America. On this day in 1898 Will Kellogg invents Corn Flakes. On this day in 1925 the 1st national march of Ku Klux Klan (between 25,000 and 40,000 marchers) in Washington, D.C. On this day in 1960 “Itsy Bitsy Teenie Weenie Yellow Polkadot Bikini” hits #1. Lastly, This is the day in 1992 that the original US ‘Dream Team’ wins the basketball gold at the Barcelona Olympics 117-85 over Croatia; features superstars Michael Jordan, Magic Johnson, Larry Bird, Scotty Pippen, Charles Barkley, Patrick Ewing. Today is Dustin Hoffman’s birthday (1937). Dustin said, “I decided to become an actor because I was failing in school and I needed the credits.” This is the day in 2017 that Glen Campbell stopped living at the age of 81. Glenn said, “it didn’t take me long to figure out that playing a guitar was a whole lot better than getting ahold of a hoe handle or chopping cotton.” That’s all folks as Pokey said. Stay safe. Abide.
