This day is called November 11, 2021. As most of you are aware, I like the theme of gratitude. I thought of a new twist as I was waking up this morning. It has to do with the two words: “had” and “got”. The word “had” implies a chore, work, something you do but would rather not. The word “got” implies an opportunity or doing something you want to do. The two words are about attitude. I got to make dinner last night or I had to make dinner last night. Dinner was turkey risotto last night which I got to make. It was delicious by the way. So, once again, it’s your attitude and your gratitude that determines how much you enjoy each day. 11.11.2021 is National Sundae Day, Veterans Day, Death/Duty Day, Origami Day and Singles Day. The Death/Duty Day is the interesting one here. This day commemorates those people who died fighting on the last day of World War 1. Although everyone knew that the war would end in hours, fighting continued until the last minute and 2,738 men lost their lives. Some allied artillery units continued firing at the Germans, because they didn’t want to have to haul away spare ammunition. Henry Gunther was the last American to die at 10:59 AM, one minute before the war ended. Now the history of this day. In 1921 US President Harding dedicated the Tomb of Unknown Soldier at Arlington Cemetery. In 1926 U.S. Route 66 was established. In 1933 “Great Black Blizzard” happened which was the 1st great dust storm in Great Plains. On this date in 1933, Albert Einstein informed FDR of the possibilities of making an atomic bomb. This is Kurt Vonnegut’s birthday. He’s regarded as one of America’s most influential authors. Kurt said, “A step backward after making a wrong turn is a step in the right direction.” And, We are here ono Earth to fart around. Don’t let anyone tell you different.” Fyodor Dostoevesky’s birthday also is today. He wrote “Crime and Punishment”. Fyodor said, “I gave up caring about anything and all the problems disappeared.” He’s right. If you want to know what he means, google “Buddha’s 4 noble truths” and read number 3. Now I’m going to start my day. Abide.
