12.12.2022. Another good day for the numerologists. All is well in my small bubble of reality and frankly, that’s all that really matters to me. I’m not oblivious to the chaos that surrounds us; I just choose to ignore it. Today is the Festival of Unmentionable Thoughts, Gingerbread House Day, Green Monday, International Sound Check Day, National 12-hour Fresh Breath Day, National Poinsettia Day, National Ambrosia Day and National Din-a-Ling Day which reminds me of a great Chuck Berry song. Now some history: On this day in 1524 Pope Clement VII approved the Organization of the Jewish Community of Rome. On this day in 1822 Mexico was officially recognized as an independent nation by the US. This is the day in 1870 that the first former slave (Joseph Rainey) took a seat in the US House of Representatives. On this day in 1893 Hawaiian King David Kalakaua was the guest of President Ulysses S. Grant at a state dinner at the White House. On this day in 1899 George F. Bryant of Boston patented the wooden golf tee. On this day in 1911 Delhi replaced Calcutta as the capital of India. On this day in 1941 the German occupying army does a house-to-house search in Paris looking for Jews. This is the day in 1946 that ‘Tide’ laundry detergent was introduced. This is the day in 2000 that the Supreme Court decided in favor of Bush in the disputed Florida election handing him the Presidency. Today we will hear from the poet, Robert Browning.
